Remember when I mentioned that the 'Cover of the Month' should be
interesting? Notice I didn't say nice! One of my
interests is covers that have been damaged by cancelling machines
and other high speed equipment. This one is of relatively
modern vintage and is explained by the note below that was
included with the envelope when it was finally delivered to
its intended desination.
The pencil note on the bottom reads 'Rec'd empty wrapped in
paper towel in a USPS envelope'. I have other similar examples
where badly damaged pieces of mail are wrapped in manila
colored paper towels, presumably to help contain all the ink.
