I saw this item in a cheap box at some show
several years ago, and just couldn't pass
it up. It does indeed have a machine
cancel, a Chicago Time-Marking machine from
early 1909. (Too bad it is not a Washington-Franklin
stamp, but that is another story.). What
caught my eye was the tiny, tiny, writing
used for the address.
They really wanted the postman to work
hard on that one! I have to use a magnifying
glass to read it, but perhaps some of
our younger members will be able
to figure it out. This is not an "April Fool",
someone really addressed this item. Now
there will be some concern that this address may
have been printed by an addressograph rather
than by hand. That always remains a possibility,
as the writing is extremely clear and well done.
