MEMBERS' CORNER presented by David Hewitt in the October 2004 Forum starting at page 3423 was a super idea, and a fine presentation. But there is more to the story . . .
David Hewitt mentions the slogan cataloged as P99-06 (Philadelphia NAT'L EXPORT / EXPOSITION) in the BOMAR study, POSTAL MARKINGS OF UNITED STATES EXPOSITIONS [1] as being the first U.S. Exposition Pre-Event Slogan. He does not mention the date, but the BOMAR study lists the Earliest Known Use (EKU) as August 6, 1899. I have not seen this example, and I believe it is a typographical error in the publication. My records indicate the EKU is August 23, 1899. I would be interested in seeing copies of the August 6, 1899, use if it exists. Also, I believe the earliest U.S. Exposition Pre-Event Slogan is another. I have the slogan B01-13A for the 1901 Pan-American Exposition, postmarked July 19, 1899! This slogan will be on the front of the new book UNITED STATES PROMOTIONAL SLOGAN CANCELLATIONS 1899-1940 due next year. I will give you a peak of the slogan below:

David Savadge on page 3431 discusses the fake 1898 Trans-Mississippi

and time. Readers may be interested in knowing that this fake
appeared in the 2002 Scott Specialized Catalog! See page 44!
Fake exposition cancel on government postal card. Note rim break between E of EXPO and O of OMAHA.
The fake cancel is dated SEPT 20 / 6 PM
